Wellness upgrade

Today, marketing campaigns and projects are shaped around the wellness theme more often; all in order to bring more value to them and provide audiences with opportunities for self-care or -discovery. Whether through ads, campaigns, or events, people want to explore new perspectives and engage better with brands that help them do so.

From calmtainment projects to different immersive experiences and VR meditation, the wellness theme is getting an upgrade this year. Here are the reasons why, along with actionable tips from Nohlab, a studio focused on producing interdisciplinary experiences around art, design, and technology.

The immersive twist of the wellness theme

A couple of years ago, wellness became the ultimate buzzword. The unhealthy approach to routine that hustle culture was dictating finally succumbed to global condemnation. Coffee on the go, late working hours, and self-care sacrifice brought nothing but anxiety and dissatisfaction with life. We all started paying attention to everyday rituals and healthy habits in order to feel better.

As more people started doing activities that foster well-being on a daily basis, brands and content creators began introducing opportunities for practicing wellness online. Plenty of ways to start using technology for your own benefit instead of harm emerged. Yoga apps, VR headsets for meditation, immersive wellness practices in museums, and more. Featuring meditative music and art, repetitive patterns, and even different scents to allow for complete immersion, these things helped brands and content creators influence audience behavior and habits. They also enhanced the impact of these wellness activities on health, reducing stress levels, showing different perspectives of routine, and providing relaxation.

Watch episode about the trend

We feel happy when we hear feedback about how people’s perspectives and ways of thinking have changed. This shows that we can connect with the audience differently. And we have fun presenting people with new ways of thinking, feeling, communicating, or, simply put, new possibilities.

However, when you play with human perception, you’re bound to come across many different challenges along the way; like motion sickness, nausea, triggering events. We are very careful in finding design solutions to minimize this, and we saw that it worked well even in a giant space during multiple projects. - the Nohlab team.

After working on multidisciplinary projects since 2011 and collaborating with numerous world-known brands such as Chanel, Audi, and Nike, Nohlab shares their own expertise and advice on how to create wellness experiences for your projects in 2023.

6 tips on creating multi-dimensional wellness experiences from Nohlab

1. Collaborate with AI tools

We do not yet have enough resources to think and create as much as the near future requires. Limited to the human cognitive capacity, we need to collaborate with AI tools that can enhance data processing and handle serial mechanics, so we can focus more on the intellectual and conceptual part of creativity.

2. Blend realities

We have already started to transfer digital environments into physical reality, or vice versa, with AR, VR, mixed reality, immersive experiences, and multisensory systems. Bringing different layers of reality together frees more possibilities.

3. Blend senses

As physical reality is a 360-degree combination of all our senses, the multisensory experience unleashes a hybrid perspective by embedding more than one perception.

4. Transform everything…into everything

Everything is made up of data; any kind of data can be turned into another. Creatively, this is very lucky because you can always think of how to change something irrelevant, and these trials can breed lots of possibilities.

5. Get inspiration from and speculate about science, technology, and biology

Making speculative designs based on new developments will grow our design perspective and help write our future at some point. One of the most exciting fields is biology. BCI (Brain Computer Interface) and AI algorithms will help create momentary artistic experiences out of what we think or imagine at that moment. Our imagination will become an object of art and design.

6. Design generative and responsive systems

In our reality with infinite possibilities, we automatically eliminate many of them once we move in a direction with our choices. But if we build generative systems which constantly create new possibilities, this can carry us to points our cognitive capacity cannot conceive yet. Also, our reality of possibilities results in a constant change in environmental conditions. This bears the need to design systems that can change their shape according to their environment.
